London bombings
On 7 July 2005, four bomb attacks struck London's public transport system during the morning rush hour. Fifty-six people were killed in the attacks, including the four suspected bombers, with 700 people injured. The incident was the deadliest single act of terrorism in the United Kingdom since the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 (which killed 270), and the deadliest bombing in London since World War II.

With all its momentous history, it’s easy to forget that London plays host to some of the world’s greatest sporting events.Of course, London’s hosted the Olympic games twice, and will again in 2012.But on top of that, each year the city plays host to the Premier League football finals at Wembley, and to tennis’s most hotly contested event at Wimbledon. And then of course, there’s a plethora of international rugby and cricket matches, which draw sports fans from all over the world.
